Whether you’re the biggest history buff out there or have a long history of hating the subject, you need to check this place out. History Museum on the Square is the best history filled experience I’ve ever had. Not being a huge history fan myself, I was a bit skeptical about spending some time here, and I am happy to say I was proven wrong! This is a spot for anyone of any age. You might come in hating history, but you’ll certainly come out with a new perspective.

The History Museum on the Square is an amazing regional history museum and expanded educational destination for Springfield and its visitors. It is conveniently located right on Route 66 and its hosts the rich history of our city. What sets this museum apart from the rest is that the expanded museum space allows guests to explore the past using interactive learning features.

There are six permanent galleries to tell the stories of significant events in Springfield. Each floor is filled with photos, artifacts, and more that give a unique and interesting perspective on Springfield, Greene County, and its people. All of this is combined using innovative technologies to create and intimate, informative, and most importantly, fun experience!

My personal favorite was the Wild Bill Hockok and the American West which gives you the chance to shoot a gun! Don’t worry parents, it’s not real, but still fun nonetheless. Another main attraction is the trolley that takes you through time. You could spend hours in there just watching all of the historic videos they have to offer.

If you live in the area, or even if you are just visiting be sure to stop by and see for yourself! Tickets are only $16 for adults, $13 seniors – 65 and older, $13 students with id – any age, $13 military & families with id, $10 child (age 4-12), and free for children aged three and under.
